How to reduce a PDF's size
- Choose your PDF: a scanned document, a PDF made from phone photos, or a certificate.
- Pick a compression level. "Recommended" suits most documents. Use "Strong" for the smallest file and "Light" if the PDF has small print.
- Enter the size limit if the form has one, such as 200 KB or 1 MB. The tool keeps compressing until the file fits.
- Tap "Compress PDF" and download the smaller file.
For a black-and-white document such as a marksheet or an Aadhaar copy, tick "Black and white" as well: the file becomes smaller still.
Which PDFs get much smaller?
This tool works best on PDFs that are mostly pictures:
- Scanned documents and PDFs made in a scanner app
- PDFs made from phone photos, which are often several MB per page
- Certificates and marksheets saved at a high resolution
A PDF that is mostly typed text (for example, one exported from Word) is usually small already. Compressing it here would not help, and the tool tells you to keep the original.
Good to know before you upload
- Text becomes part of the picture. Each page is saved as an image, so text in the new PDF can't be selected, copied or searched. For online forms this is almost never a problem.
- Check that it is readable. Open the new PDF and zoom in on small print (dates, roll numbers) before uploading. If it is blurry, choose "Light" or a higher size limit.
- Page sizes stay the same, so the PDF prints exactly like the original.

How do I reduce a PDF to 200 KB?
Choose the PDF, tap the "200 KB" button (or type 200 in "Maximum file size") and tap "Compress PDF". The tool tries stronger compression until the file is under 200 KB. For a long PDF with many pages, 200 KB may not be possible while staying readable; the tool then gives you the smallest version it can make.
Why did my PDF not get smaller?
It was probably already well compressed, or mostly typed text. In that case your original file is the better one, and the tool does not offer a bigger copy.
Will the text still be clear?
At "Recommended" and "Light", normal print stays clear. Very small print can blur at "Strong" or with a very low size limit, so always check the new PDF before you upload it.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Remove the password first (open it with the password and save or print it as a new PDF), then compress that copy.
Is my PDF uploaded to your server?
No. The PDF is processed entirely inside your browser on your own device. It is never uploaded or stored anywhere.
