What is an udhaar khata?

An udhaar khata (credit ledger, or "khata book") is the record a shop keeps of goods given on credit and payments received from each customer. This free online version works like the notebook behind the counter, but it adds up every balance for you, reminds customers on WhatsApp and gives you a clean statement whenever someone asks for their account.

How to use it

1. Add a customer with their name and, if you like, their mobile number.
2. Tap "You gave" when you give goods or money on credit. Tap "You got" when the customer pays you back. Add the date and a short note such as "rice 10 kg".
3. Read the balance. "You will get" (in red) is what the customer still owes you. "You will give" (in green) means you owe them, for example after an advance.
4. Send a reminder. "WhatsApp reminder" opens WhatsApp with a polite message showing the pending amount and your shop's name.
5. Share a statement. "Statement PDF" makes a one-page account with every entry, the running balance and the closing balance.

The list at the top shows your total "You will get" and "You will give" across all customers, and the monthly summary shows how much credit you gave and how much you collected in any month.

Keep your records safe

Your entries are saved only on this phone, in this browser. Nothing is uploaded, so nobody else can see your customers or amounts. The flip side is that clearing your browser data or changing phones will erase them. So:

• Download a backup every week. The tool reminds you when your last backup is more than 7 days old. Keep the file in Google Drive or send it to yourself on WhatsApp.
• On a new phone, open this page and choose "Restore backup" to bring everything back.
• Need it in Excel? "Export to Excel (CSV)" gives you every entry with the date, customer and amount.

Tips for giving credit

• Write a note with every entry. "Sugar 5 kg" settles arguments much faster than a bare amount.
• Set a limit in your head for each customer, and check their balance before giving more.
• Remind early and politely. A short message at the start of the month works better than a large old balance.
• Mark payments the same day so the balance you show a customer is always right.
